Overview
The vision now shifts from the judgment of cities or nations to the entire earth. All of the inhabitants of the earth will feel His judgment.
Isaiah 24:1-3
Behold, the Lord will empty the earth and make it desolate, and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the slave, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor. The earth shall be utterly empty and utterly plundered; for the Lord has spoken this word.
These verses show the complete power of the Creator. He created the world and someday He will (in a poetic sense) pick up the earth and twist it, wringing it out like wet laundry. Furthermore, no human will be protected from His judgment. Both a priest and a slave will face the same fate. No amount of wealth, no amount of security, can shield you from the righteous squeeze of YHWH.
Isaiah 24:21-23
On that day the Lord will punish the host of heaven, in heaven, and the kings of the earth, on the earth. They will be gathered together as prisoners in a pit; they will be shut up in a prison, and after many days they will be punished. Then the moon will be confounded and the sun ashamed, for the Lord of hosts reigns on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and his glory will be before his elders.
I know. Isaiah sounds like a broken record. Once again, he talks about “that Day”. Already, by Isaiah 24, Isaiah has mentioned “that Day” no less than 30 times. Bible scholars wish God supplied a time stamp with His revelation. He didn’t. Therefore, the task of the scholar or the layman is to pray, use proper hermeneutics and embrace any and all Spirit-filled application. Is this referring to the Great Tribulation? I personally think so. Some would say this is also referring to the Millenium, a literal thousand years where Jesus reigns in Jerusalem, an era that begins after His Second Coming. As I have said before, don’t miss the main point of Isaiah’s vision. God is righteous. The wages of sin is death. But the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
Do you see God as the Judge? Do you see Him as the King of Kings? Or do you see Him as your Father? Counselor? Savior? Lord? The answer is God is all these things. But knowing facts about God is not the same as knowing God from a place of soulish surrender. This is the fundamental difference between a demon and a Christian. Both have factual knowledge of God. But only one has a relationship, a changed heart, a new disposition, a righteous fear of God.
Pray for this world. Do not fear—that Day will not overtake us. Be ready for the return of Jesus.
