Overview

Isaiah 25 is connected to Isaiah 24. Isaiah 24 talked about the judgment of the earth. Isaiah 25 is highlighting the goodness of God, which is innate to His character, even during the final days of a future global reckoning.

Isaiah 25:1

O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.

No matter the circumstances in life, God is faithful. It is always mindblowing to imagine the eternal councils of God. All these plans were formed in eternity past, before the foundations of the earth were laid. I imagine the Godhead discussing the future, their roles, their plan to save humanity. God the Son lifting His hand, offering His service, the Father and Spirit in agreement.

Isaiah 25:6-8

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.

The image of a mountain. Mountains are sacred places in the Bible. Ararat, Sinai, Zion, Tabor, Carmel and Olives. Dogmatism about the identification of this mountain is not important. What is important is embracing the truth that on that mountain the transformation of the world will begin. A new Garden of Eden will arise. Death will be no more. The presence of God will never leave us again.

Isaiah 25:9

It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

Waiting. The ancient people of God waited for the Messiah to come. But sadly, when he finally did arrive—they weren’t ready. They missed the day of visitation. For us, the current people of God—we also continue to wait. Jesus came to save us 2000 years ago. He accomplished that. Now we wait for His return. But this time, He will stay. He will reign. No more pain. No more suffering. No more goodbyes.

Waiting is meant to be corporate exercise. We need each other. Go encourage someone today. Remind them of their future hope. Remind them He will return. Remind them we have overcome the world, because HE has overcome it. The victory is ours. Now let us live in that freedom today!
